OPRYLAND HOTEL ANNOUNCES
GRAND CELEBRATION 2000 ENTERTAINMENT

NASHVILLE, Tenn ---Superstars Dolly Parton, Ray Charles and Steve Wariner, along with the best-selling comedian in the country, Jeff Foxworthy, will be the featured entertainers at Gaylord Entertainment's Opryland Hotel four-day millennium event, th e Grand Celebration 2000, from Dec. 30, 1999, through Jan. 3, 2000.

The Delta, the hotel's 4.5-acre glass-roofed garden, will be the site of an entertainment extravaganza on New Year's Eve that will feature gourmet food and a variety of musical styles including jazz, blues, country and classical. The first moment of the new millennium will be marked by an indoor laser and fireworks show at the 2,884-room hotel.

For more than 30 years, Dolly Parton has celebrated country music and its heritage. Parton stands today as a certified superstar, internationally known and respected for her songs, her records and her live concerts as well as television specials and movies.

Parton first appeared as a singing guitarist on local radio as a child in her East Tennessee home. In 1966, she was recruited to the prestigious Porter Wagoner Show as Wagoner's duet partner and female foil in comedy sketches. She became a member of the Grand Ole Opry in 1969.

Parton recently teamed up with Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt, bringing back tunes from the 70's on their album "Trio II," which quickly rose to be the Top 10 on the Billboard country chart. The first "Trio" album earned them a Grammy Award for be st country album in 1987.

Ray Charles has the distinction of being both a national treasure and an international phenomenon. Born in Albany, Ga., Charles says "he was not born blind, only poor." By the early 1960's, Charles had accomplished his dream, making it to Carnegie Hall and his first European tour, with hit records "Georgia" and "Born to Lose."

Charles has earned 12 Grammys and continues to perform throughout the world. Charles will celebrate his 69th birthday this year.

Steve Wariner began his music career as a teenager, playing bass and singing in Dottie West's band at 17. By 1977, he had his first "singles" deal as a solo artist, thanks to Chet Atkins. "Chet was my first producer," says Wariner. He became a member of the Grand Ole Opry in 1996.

Now 20 years after recording his first single, Wariner has more than a dozen No. 1 songs and 30 Top Ten singles to his name.

Jeff Foxworthy is the largest-selling comedian in recording history, with more than 11 million CD?s and tapes and has two triple-platinum certified CD's. The author of 10 best-selling books, Foxworthy also has starred in his own critically acclaimed HBO comedy special, "Totally Committed," as well as two Showtime specials.

Foxworthy hosts the nationally syndicated radio program, "The Foxworthy Countdown," which is based in Atlanta, where he lives with his wife and two daughters.

On Dec. 30, guests for Opryland's Grand Celebration 2000 will be greeted with a special VIP welcome reception. That evening, the celebration begins with the "Big Band Blast" featuring Ray Charles and a four-course dinner.

On Dec. 31, the day begins with the "Around the World Champagne Brunch," complete with Spanish dance troupes, festive circus acts and even a mariachi band. Then comes the event the world has been waiting for . . . the countdown to a new millennium.

The New Year's Eve celebration will transform the entire 4.5-acre Delta garden. The evening will offer gourmet food, drink and dance. Jazz, blues and classical sounds will fill the Delta, along with dancing in the street, Mardi Gras-style. At the stroke of midnight, an indoor laser and fireworks show will illuminate the immense space.

Guests will start the new year with the "New Year's Day Sports Spectacular," featuring an all-American champagne brunch. The hotel will transform one of its ballrooms into a giant living room, complete with big screen TV's, a live half- time show and cheerleaders to help guests cheer on their favorite football teams.

That night, "Country Salute 2000" will feature a four-course dinner and country entertainment from Steve Wariner and Dolly Parton.

The final evening of Opryland's Grand Celebration 2000 on Jan. 2, will feature Jeff Foxworthy, along with other comedians for "Comedy Club 2000."
